HIGHLIGHTS OF 2005 EMPIRE FARM DAYS

Getting around show is easy
For the convenience of our visitors-5 trams operate in the following locations this year: In the North parking lots, with a drop off at the North end of Empire Blvd: In the South parking lots, with a drop of at the South end of Empire Blvd: One continually within the show on Empire Blvd, between the North and South ends of the show, and a new tram running east and west this year in the center of the show.

FIDDLERS PROVIDE FUN & MUSIC
Back by popular demand, EFD is host to a local group of traveling musicians. A small group of fiddlers will be on hand to delight and entertain visitors as they roam the show. The best place to catch up with these guys will be in the area of 601, near the Welcome Center of the show.

FLYERS WELCOME!
The NY Flying Farmers (#927): This nonprofit group of pilots provides an essential service to Empire Farm Days visitors with a continuous shuttle back and forth to the Finger Lakes Regional Airport. Flying farmers can land at the airport, adjacent to the show site, and be at the show within minutes, thanks to this dedicated group.

LOCAL GROUP PROVIDES INFO ON AREA:
Visitors can stop by the Seneca County Tourism booth #44 in the Northeast Main Tent to get information on the area attractions.

SAFE & SECURE:
A safety workshop to teach young people (#623) -- and their parents -- how to operate safely many small machines found on farms and around rural homes. Demonstrations and hands-on activities show participants how to avoid the hazards of operating small machines and equipment.

AG Leaders to meet at EFD:
Every year American Agriculturist hosts a luncheon for the leaders in NY Agriculture at this Empire State Council of Agricultural Organization Luncheon. This is also the time when the Environmental Stewardship Award is given out, the Empire State Potato Growers Inc. scholarship award is presented, and new this year-a Cornell Safe Farmer of the Year award will be presented by the Cornell Agricultural Health & Safety Program (#600).

ESPG SCHOLARSHIP WINNER RECOGNIZED:
The Empire State Potato Growers Inc. will recognize their annual scholarship winner at the CAO luncheon on Wednesday of the show (#600).

Agricultural centers offer innovation and information:
Agricultural agencies come together at Empire Farm Days to showcase their programs, systems, information and innovation to Northeast farmers. Look inside for details on the following Information Centers: Special Events #600; Dairy Seminar #424; Safety & Health #623; NYS Grange Farm Family #110; Farm Bureau Farm Family #918; Cornell University #400; USDA #502, NYS DEC #105; NY Beef Industry #202; FFA/ 4-H Contest #928; Equine Center #503, & Grape Center #400.

COMPACT TRACTOR DRIVING EXPERIENCE:
Back and expanded by popular demand…This Year is a Compact Tractor Driving Experience (#928). Visitors will be able to test drive compact/ utility tractors at a “track” all three days. Major manufacturers will have tractors and personnel on hand for visitors to have a driving experience on select 25-60 horsepower tractors. Participants will be able to sign-up to win DeWalt Tools just for taking part in the Driving Experience.

Field Demos & Plots-NEW GPS DEMO!
Daily field demonstrations, crop trials and new management tools can be found in the Demo Area all three days of EFD. Stop by and see the real power of agriculture as the manufacturers put their newest in the field. Don’t miss our new GPS demo!

ANTIQUE TRACTOR DISPLAY:
Enthusiasts from all over the Northeast bring their treasures to Empire Farm Days to put together a wonderful display of antique tractors at the show (#100). There is also a parade throughout the show site daily.

Equine Center at EFD:
Horse owners will have their own center for information at this year’s Empire Farm Days. In addition to equipment, products and services for the equine industry, Empire Farm Days has created an Equine Center (#503). Filled with information and providing short seminars for horse owners the Equine Center also offers folks a chance to win a saddle and a weanling Haflinger foal. NY FUTURE FARMERS OF AMERICA:
Each year New York FFA Members participate in several Career Development Events, which help them to develop their potential for career success. This year the Tractor Operators Contest and Welding Contest will take place at the Empire Farm Days in on Thursday August 11th(#928). The tractor operators contest is a statewide event. Registration is from 8am until 10am with the activities starting at 9am. For more information please contact Glenn Osterhout, coordinator at 315/893-1878.

WELCOME CENTER:
Stop by the Welcome Center at #601 and grab a complimentary bag of NY – grown potato chips, meet the growers and their families who bring you this show year after year. Visit the displays of potatoes and get new ideas for cooking America’s Favorite Vegetable – the potato. Other highlights in this area include a historical view of the 72-year old Empire Farm Days, and answers to your questions about displays, exhibits and schedules.
New this year, as a service to visitors, there will be an ATM in this area provided by Lyons National Bank.

EFD History
Ever wonder how the whole thing got started? Stop in the ESPG Welcome Center # 601 for a quick history lesson and photo display of Empire Farm Days.

Potato Growers Rest Stop
As owners of the largest farm show in the Northeast, members of the Empire State Potato Growers Inc. will be given VIP treatment at their very own Hospitality Center. #601. Like last year, growers can stop in, rest, visit with other growers and get a cold drink.

ALL THIS AND TONS OF FUN TOO!!!
